More about Bloom:
Even in our age of short attention spans, there is something that draws musicians towards releasing 10 song albums: maybe it’s the appeal of doing what our favorite artists from yesteryear did, the ability to put ourselves into a lineage of important albums, or the belief that we are making a larger musical statement beyond any a single piece. Perhaps with all these reasons in mind, we are excited to release Bloom, our full-length debut album of original compositions.

More than anything, this album is a testament to our growth throughout this process, so much of which we owe to producer Wes Corbett. With a sharp ear, encouraging words, and the ability to whip up a tasty stir-fry, Wes brought exactly what we needed to this process; it’s why we paid him the “big banjo bucks,” as he might say. Wes helped us bring on legendary recording engineer Dave Sinko, whose resume includes the albums that made us fall in love with this kind of music to begin with. It’s easy to see why our favorite artists go to him again and again: beyond being an audio wizard, you’d be hard pressed to find a sweeter soul. Though it’s us playing the instruments, this album is as much a result of their careful efforts as it is ours. A special shoutout to Travis McNamara of Arthouse Consulting for helping us run a Kickstarter campaign that, beyond paying for the very item you’re holding, helped us connect with our friends and fans in a truly special way.

While recording, Wes said something that really stuck with us: “Sometimes, a funny thing occurs: we make an album that ends up being better than us, which in turn forces us to grow to meet it.” We feel that’s exactly what happened with Bloom, and we're excited to spend the next few years growing into it as a group. From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for listening. We hope you enjoy.

a moment we can’t understand

single - released Aug 5, 2022

If you know us and you've been to a show, you've probably heard this one, and we're so incredibly proud of this recording. This is a tune we have been playing for a long time, and is a really important part of our history together. A Moment We Can’t Understand is classic Sprig: we ebb and flow, move through textures and layers, and create delicate moments of clarity and synchronicity.

Eight Threads

album - released April 2, 2021

Eight pieces of music. Eight composers. One band. Over a year and a half in the making, Sprig of That’s Eight Threads features eight original compositions for the group, each written by a different Twin Cities-based music-maker. From big band composers to singer-songwriters, traditional notation to improvisation, each piece refracts a different musical voice through Sprig’s interpretational lens.

Untold

ep - released Nov 6, 2020

Untold was recorded in the summer of 2019 at Virtue and Vice studios in Brooklyn, NY, with jack-of-all-trades violinist Ben Russell (Arcade Fire, ACME, Founders) in the producer’s chair, the pair of introspective compositions are a soothing but fitting escape from anxious and unprecedented times. Evocative yet mysterious, Untold provides a color palette and a brush and invites listeners to paint their own picture.

Sprig of That

ep - released Feb 7, 2019

Sprig of That’s first recording is a spirited exploration of the group’s sound. Featuring covers of folk fiddle tunes such as classic Cluck Old Hen, and I’ve Endured by Ola Belle Reed, as well as original works. Sprig of That establishes their sound in this brief but lush initial recording.
